Our truck is a 2000 Freightliner FL 60 purchased from Mountain Master in Phoenix Arizona http://mountainmaster.net/ The reason we chose Mountain Master was the competitive price compared to California, where we were living at the time, and most important was the storage capacity (two large lockable storage tubs approx: 3’ deep x 4’ wide x 2’ deep each and a 8’ x 6” x 12“ tool box) for the wheelbase compared to others we had seen.  Options included are Allison 6-speed Automatic Transmission, Air Ride Suspension, Air Seats, Air Brakes, Mountain Master Air Hitch with the Binkley hitch head, CAT 3126B 300hp engine and 860 Ft-lbs Torque, Safe T Steer.

We have added:

·        Back up lights on the headache bar.  We bought the truck before we went full timing and though we rarely drive at night now, it was helpful backing up when we came home late from work. (We did have had occasion to assist a RV’er parked in a boondock area with a flat tire by backing up our truck next to their trailer to light up the work area and used our generator for the power tools).

·        Cut out the diamond plate cover of the non-water proof area between the two large storage bays and placed a Honda 3000 quiet generator between the headache bar and air hitch in the center of the truck bed.  Our last Honda generator (1600) lasted 16 years and is still probably going strong, but we wanted more power to run an air conditioner and knew we would probably change trailers once or twice during the life of the truck so we did not want to install the generator in the 5th wheel.  Since we don’t boondock that often we did not set it up to be accessed from the rig. (A remote control is available for this model)  Margaret likes the ease of the key start and 9-hour capacity when fully tapped by the air conditioner. While on an extended stay she pulled out her sewing machine and made matching vinyl covers for the generator and air hitch.

·        Added Rhino lining to the generator well for waterproofing.

·        The original engine came with 250 hp & 800 ft-lbs torque, after the warranty expired we had it re-flashed to 300 hp and 860 ft-lbs torque for potential re-sale value and of course a little more oomph up the hill.

I pull a:

This is why we drive a MDT.  We have a 39 foot Teton Homes Experience 5th wheel with the Frontier floor plan www.tetonhomes.com weighing in at 18,790# when weighed at the Spring Escapade in Lancaster. The features we especially like are the big desk, round oak dining table with leaf to seat 8 (this is a very rare occasion, but when family gathers and it rains outside it is a life saver) large kitchen counter space and king size bed. We added a front load washer and stackable dryer after it was 2 years old. We enjoy a bag of popcorn with movies on the DVD player. We have been full-timing since 12-2001.
