My
1999 Freightliner FL-70 is a converted Hot-Shot that originally had a
22' van body. Truck is powered by a 350 HP CAT 3126B and Spicer
7-speed manual transmission getting about 7 .6 mpg. It has air brakes,
Hendrickson air suspension with dump valve, air ride seats, air ride
hitch built by Kelderman Mfg. in
Iowa
, 2-
75 gal
. fuel tanks and an 9 1/2' Pioneer Flatbed. This truck replaced a 1991
Isuzu EVR.
The
72" Aerodyne sleeper was completely stripped. Cabinets were built
on the passenger side with refrigerator, sink with water tank and
microwave. The driver's side has a table and seats that makes into a
bed. Equipment added includes a 1500 watt inverter/converter,
diesel-fired heater, multiband HR/VHF/UHF ham radio, satellite radio
in sleeper and cab, computer with GPS and touchscreen monitor at the
driver's seat. I've had the flat bed dropped
2 inches
, coated the flatbed with Herculiner
non-skid coating, replaced the flatbed tail plate, added a
150 cubic foot
storage box behind the sleeper and changed
tires to low profile Goodyear RV tires.
I pull a
2003
Holiday
Rambler Presidential 36' mid-kitchen
trailer with 4 slide-outs. The trailer has a GVW of 17,000#. The truck
and trailer weighed out at just over 35,000#.
Sonja and I moved from
Oregon
to northern
Alabama
and are preparing to build a 45' x 75' building for the truck/trailer,
garage for cars and a 600 sq ft temporary living quarters. We need some
place to store our travel mementos from our trips now that I've retired.
