My truck is a 1999 Volvo 610 converted class 8 tractor – it stands 10’10” high, and is 25’ long, with the hauler bed. It is powered by a Cummins ISM with 400 hp/ 1450 torque, and weighs in at about 18,000 lbs. We have an Eaton autoshift transmission, and can carry 300 gallons of on-board fuel. The tractor was converted to single axle by moving the rear axle forward and building a new drive train to match. The wheelbase is 182”, which is the shortest practical wb that allows for 42” to carry “toys” behind the cab (while maintaining 52” swing room for the trailer). We use a Trailersaver hitch – primarily because of the low profile. We kept the sleeper intact and added a refrigerator and microwave, which allowed us to title the truck as a motorhome in TX. I added a 1500 watt inverter and external shore power (with automatic transfer via a DPDT relay) to power the refrigerator, micro and other 120-volt appliances. We also have a backup camera that allows us to see that nice blind spot behind the sleeper. The hauler body was built by Herrin Welding in Kilgore, TX.  More information on our truck and conversion process is available on our website.

We pull a 2001 Royals International 5er, Model 3741 – it is 38’ long, triple slide, and weighs 20,400 lbs, as loaded. The trailer is powered by 4-120 watt solar panels, a 2000 watt inverter, and for those dark days, a 6500 watt Onan propane generator. It is leveled with a Bigfoot leveling system – which we just love.
